Very specifically there is one quite good tutorial for fallout 4 on how to create a custom follower. It doesn't make sense to watch how you navmesh if you want to create a follower, but you should understand the basics such as opening mods, how to navigate inside the creation kit, how the view ports work, where to find stuff etc. First learn how to use the creation kit, then go to specific topics. I recommend the tutorials from darkfox127 as an in depth introduction to the creation kit. The creation kit is the same for both games in most parts. You can also watch tutorials for fallout 4. There are many tutorials on YouTube that explain how to create a follower and some very good ones that go more into detail.
